Colehouse Farm
A lovingly restored farmhouse that is believed to date from around the early 17 th Century. It is set within 56 acres of farmland in a peaceful location one mile away from the picturesque village of Broadwoodkelly. The half-mile private driveway from the road, down typical narrow Devon lane, leads to the farmhouse with breath-taking views over the Devon countryside. It is the ideal base for exploring the heart of Devon whether on foot, bicycle, car or even horseback; because of the unique setting of Colehouse Farm it is also perfect for artists, writers and those who prefer a quieter 'off-the-beaten-track' holiday.
Being a small traditional Devon farm, which has been the same size for almost 400 years, we keep about 50 sheep and 50 cattle in our fields, along with six free range hens, who have been rescued from battery farms by the Battery Hen Welfare Trust and come to us to retire. In the spring, we can have up to 75 lams as well playing in the fields, and not to forget our 4 black Labrador dogs to keep us company and take us for regular walks.
West Colehouse Cottage is a self contained part of the main farmhouse with original oak beams, inglenook fireplace and flagstone floors whilst the spacious bedrooms have vaulted ceilings and tastefully co-ordinated furnishings.
The larger village of Winkleigh is 3 miles away and offers an excellent pub serving food all day, every day, a shop that stocks most day-to-day requirements including an Off-Licence. There is a post office that also sells many locally produced cards and gifts and the village butcher who supplies meats from the local farms. Just a few miles down the road takes you to old town of Okehampton and the "Gateway to Dartmoor". Ideal for Day trips out on foot or by bike. |
